What Remains of Light | 10 x 14 w/c on paper

  • from the series Inheritance of Light

Not all light fades.

Some of it stays.

In this work, layers of violet unfold slowly across the surface, holding traces of each gesture beneath them. The watercolor settles into the paper with a quiet persistence, allowing memory to remain visible through transparency.

A subtle division moves through the composition, creating a space between what is present and what is left open. Within this space, the painting begins to breathe — where light is no longer something that arrives, but something that lingers.

This piece continues my exploration of Inheritance of Light, reflecting on how beauty and sensitivity are carried over time. What we receive is not always visible, yet it shapes how we see, how we feel, and how we create.

Here, light is not expansive.

It is held in fragments.

It remains — softly, persistently — within the surface. — Natasha Shoro
